Every piece is cut from glass by hand to the artist’s sketch, ground, wrapped in copper foil and soldered. This is how stained glass has been made since the late 19th century, and how we work.
What the Tiffany technique is
In the late 19th century Louis Comfort Tiffany introduced a new way to assemble stained glass. Each piece is cut to the sketch, ground, its edges wrapped in copper foil, and the pieces are soldered together with tin. The technique allows not only flat panels but also three-dimensional work: ceilings and domes, lamps, sconces and vases.
Where Tiffany stained glass is used

- stained glass ceilings
- kitchen cabinet fronts
- mosaic from stained glass
How to recognise quality
Look at the soldering: in a well-made panel the seam is even and neat on both sides, without lumps or dips. There should be no cracks, gaps or chips between the pieces.
The glass we use
Glass from European and American manufacturers, and our own glass made in the fusing kiln: coloured, clear, semi-transparent, opalescent, with different textures.
