Custom glass in Odesa is cut to your measurements: straight, shaped or from a template, using the workshop’s glass or yours. Cutting can be combined with edge finishing, bevelling, drilling, frosting, tempering and laminated glass. To order, you need the exact dimensions of each piece, the thickness and the edge finish, and for complex shapes a full-size template.

Key points

  • The workshop cuts both its own glass and the client’s: glass, glass panels and mirrors of different thicknesses.
  • There are two cutting methods: an automated system with high precision and hand cutting of non-standard shapes from the client’s template.
  • Cutting can be combined with drilling, sandblasting, photo printing, frosting, UV bonding, laminated glass and tempering.
  • The workshop repairs glass items and replaces broken glass.
  • Dim Skla in Odesa delivers finished orders across Ukraine.

What can be made from glass to order?

Both separate parts and finished items for homes and offices are made to individual dimensions.

  • Glass panels for windows, hallways and other places, including insulated glass units.
  • Shelves and shelving units made for a specific niche or wall.
  • Table tops for coffee and dining tables, cut to the surface you need.
  • Frameless shower doors fitted to the bathroom.
  • Sliding glass doors that save space and let light through.
  • Custom mirrors of any shape.

If a glass item is broken, it can be repaired or the glass replaced. Dim Skla is a stained glass and glass workshop in Odesa, Ukraine: an art studio and a glass production facility, so cutting and finishing are done at its own workshop.

How is glass cut: by machine or by hand?

Glass is cut in two ways, and the choice depends on the shape of the piece.

  1. Automated cutting system. Cuts glass with high precision.
  2. Hand cutting. Used for non-standard shapes cut from the client’s own templates.

Both the workshop’s glass and yours can be cut: if you already have a sheet, you can bring it in.

What finishing can be added to cutting?

After cutting the edge is sharp, so edge finishing is almost always added. The workshop also offers a range of related operations.

Type of work What it gives you
Straight and shaped cutting A piece of the right shape, from a rectangle to a complex figure
Edge grinding and polishing A safe and neat edge
Bevelling An angled edge around the glass or mirror
Cutting with protective film A piece with film applied to the surface
Drilling Holes of different diameters for fixings and hardware
Frosting and sandblasting A frosted surface or a pattern
Tempering Tempered glass for doors, showers and railings
UV bonding Joining glass parts together

The workshop also does photo printing on glass and mirror tiles, and makes and cuts laminated glass.

Do you cut mirrors and do repairs?

Yes. The workshop cuts not only glass but also mirror sheets of different thicknesses: straight, shaped and in complex geometric figures. A mirror can have its edge ground and polished or bevelled, that is, an angled edge around the perimeter. Mirrors are also made into mirror tiles, when a large wall area is easier to assemble from separate elements.

If a glass item is broken or damaged, it can be repaired: the workshop repairs glass items and replaces broken glass. Send a photo of the item and the dimensions of the part to be replaced, and if the shape is complex, bring the remaining pieces or a template.

If you are ordering glass for furniture, such as shelves or a table top, think in advance about where the fixings will be and whether holes are needed. Drilling and edge finishing depend on this, and so does the final piece.

How to measure for a glass order?

Accurate measurements save time and avoid rework. Prepare:

  1. The dimensions of each piece: width and height, measured at several points for an opening, noting the smallest value.
  2. The glass thickness or what it is for: a shelf, table top, door or partition.
  3. The edge finish: simple grinding, polishing or a bevel.
  4. Holes and cut-outs: where they are needed and what diameter.
  5. For a complex shape, a full-size template made of cardboard or thick paper.
  6. If the glass is yours, bring it along with the dimensions of each piece.

When do you need laminated or tempered glass?

Laminated and tempered glass are needed where safety matters: in doors, showers, partitions, railings and floors.

Laminated glass consists of at least two sheets bonded with a polymer or a clear poured sealant. After a heavy impact the fragments do not scatter but stay on the bonding layer. It comes in thicknesses from 4 to 36 mm: thin glass is used indoors and thick glass for outdoor structures. The workshop makes and cuts laminated glass and tempers glass. For example, a custom glass shower enclosure uses tempered glass.

How do you get the finished glass?

An order takes a few steps: you send the dimensions and the task, the workshop calculates the cost, makes the pieces after the advance payment, and you accept the work. Work starts after an advance payment, usually 50–70 % of the order value.

Finished orders are delivered across Ukraine. The workshop and production are at one address in Odesa: Mykolaivska Doroha 253, Prodmash plant. Please call before visiting.
